What are dental implants?
Dental implants are the preferred option for people seeking treatment options to replace their teeth. They are made from a high-grade medical titanium screw that is precisely placed into your jaws. Titanium is used as it induces something known as osseo-integration and this creates a strong sturdy platform for your tooth.

Coordination of your treatment
Some clinics offer surgery by one dentist, and then the restorative component by another. This in itself is not a problem as long as there is only one consultant who coordinates the entire treatment. If problems happen, people will start blaming each other, which can be frustrating.
It is advantageous when the treatment is undertaken at the one clinic, which assumes responsibility and remains the one point of contact should a problem arise. At Dental at Joondalup, we are able to provide dental implants in Perth from start to finish in over 90% of cases.
How much is a dental implant in Joondalup?

Dental Implant FAQs
What’s the process for getting dental implants completed?
Our journey starts off with a comprehensive exam with all your teeth, gums, and jaws. Photos, radiographs, and something known as a Cone Beam scan are all used to determine the bone and the gum condition.
The next step is to take an impression of your mouth, which allows us to make a replica of your teeth and gums. An impression is a fantastic way to plan your implant surgery and we are even able to do guided digital surgery from your model to that we can place your implant within 0.25mm. Amazing!
We will initiate making some temporary teeth if you’re missing teeth in the front. This can be in the form of a denture, a temporary bridge, or even a temporary implant.
After we have decided you are suitable for a dental implant, discussion occurs over what sedation options exist. These include:
- No Sedation,
- A tablet 1 hour before treatment to relax your jaws,
- IV sedation at our clinic, or
- General anaesthetic at a hospital.
On the day of your dental implant placement, you will be asked to come in for approximately 1 to 2 hours depending on the complexity of your surgery.
The surgery itself only takes about 30 minutes and you well leave feeling like you do after a filling. The most annoying thing is playing with your stitches after the appointment.
It is important to remember that most of the time you will still have a gap at this stage or you may feel a small bump in your gum to prevent your gum from growing over the top of your implant.
After 3 to 6 months after we are able to take impressions of your implants and go on and fabricate your implant crown.
Do dental implants hurt?
During the procedure, there should be no pain at all due to the local anaesthetic or sedation options available.
After the anaesthesia has worn off, you will definitely know that something has happened to your mouth but you can go about your daily routine after the procedure.
The truth of the matter is that most ever procedures are painless. It’s the anticipation and fear of the unknown they can throw our anxieties into a spiral prior to our treatment.
It’s important to build trust with a dentist and know what to expect so that you may have a great experience. Most people at Dental at Joondalup report that they don’t even take painkillers after having dental implant surgery.
How do I know that I’m a candidate for dental implants?
If you’re missing a tooth, chances are you’re most likely eligible to get a dental implant.
Dental implants are remarkably versatile and they can be used to support your single crown and mimic what your natural tooth would have felt like. Of course, we would need to do a complete assessment to make sure you qualify for implant dentistry and discuss if there are other treatments that may be better for you.
If my tooth is removed will I be left with a gap?
If you choose to not have an empty gap when it comes to replacing a front tooth, you have options. These options can be discussed with you in person as they vary from person to person. Most people do not replace back teeth temporarily; however, this is left up to you.
Will I need bone grafting?
In cases where bone is insufficient for simple dental implant surgery we are able to do bone grafting at the same time as your dental implant. We usually wait for the six months before placing implants over bone grafted areas to make sure the bone graft has matured
How long does the whole process take?
Simple dental implants can take as little as three months to complete. Complicated cases with bone grafting and soft tissue grafting can occasionally lead to a case taking up to 1 year. Fortunately, these cases are quite rare.
Rest assured that if your dentist wishes to take a long time doing an implant, they are probably doing it for your ultimate health outcome.
Why are implants better than other options?
- Dental implants are great for preserving the remaining jawbone and maintaining your facial structure to make sure your bite remains healthy, and you look youthful.
- Dental implants feel and function like natural teeth
- Dental implants are strong, stable and securely attached the jaw and most people forget that they have them in place
- Dental implants do not require adhesives or creams
- Dental implants are a long lasting solution which have very high success rates after 10 years
- Dental implants are easiest to look after and clean
- Dental implants do not affect the adjacent teeth, unlike dental bridges.
